City of Tshwane strengthens tourism partnerships at Africa’s Travel Indaba 2026

The City of Tshwane has successfully participated at Africa’s Travel Indaba 2026, which was held in Durban from 12 to 14 May 2026, where the City formed part of the Gauteng Tourism Authority’s unified provincial pavilion under the theme One pavilion. One story. Africa’s bleisure powerhouse.

During the three-day trade show, the City’s tourism team engaged with buyers, tourism businesses, media and stakeholders from local and international markets by promoting Tshwane’s diverse tourism offering. The showcase highlighted the city’s heritage and cultural attractions, township tourism experiences, nature-based tourism, lifestyle precincts and transport infrastructure that supports accessibility and regional connectivity.

The event created valuable opportunities for the City to strengthen existing industry relationships, reconnect with long-standing tourism buyers and establish new partnerships that can support future growth and investment related to tourism. Discussions during the exhibition focused on improving collaboration across the tourism sector, collectively marketing destinations and positioning Gauteng more competitively in domestic and international markets.

Destination Tshwane’s presence was supported by a range of tourism businesses, attractions and industry organisations that contribute to Tshwane’s destination offering. Participating companies included Dinokeng Game Reserve, Cullinan Tourism Association, Fundani Tours, 3@Marion Guesthouse, Ultimate Pretoria Bucketlist, Menlyn Boutique Hotel, Kievits Kroon, Freedom Park, the Voortrekker Monument, Skål International Pretoria, Zilko Travel & Tours, Mopani Lodge, Cliff Café and the Institute of Professional Tourist Guides of Southern Africa.

The City also highlighted its transport and mobility infrastructure, including the Gautrain, the A Re Yeng bus rapid transit system, Tshwane Bus Services and Wonderboom National Airport, which collectively enhance access and connectivity for visitors across the city-region.

Following the indaba, the Tshwane Tourism Division hosted a group of North American buyers on a post-indaba familiarisation tour of Tshwane’s iconic heritage attractions, including Freedom Park and the Union Buildings while showcasing public transportation infrastructure in Gautrain connecting the Gauteng city region. Familiarisation tours, commonly referred to as “fam trips”, are an important tourism marketing tool that is used to increase destination awareness and product knowledge among international travel trade buyers. These experiences allow buyers to engage directly with destinations, and they therefore help to position Tshwane more effectively in international travel packages and future tourism itineraries.

While Africa’s Travel Indaba 2026 has concluded, the engagements and partnerships initiated during the event will continue beyond the exhibition floor. The City of Tshwane tourism team remains committed to working collaboratively with industry stakeholders to grow tourism, attract business events and position Tshwane as a leading African capital city destination.
