The Struggle And Freedom Route
The Struggle And Freedom Route
This route commemorates and recaptures South Africa’s road to independence. It traces back the footsteps of Nelson Mandela from his inauguration at the Union Buildings, his historic Rivonia trail at the Palace of Justice on Church Square to his sentencing handed down in the Old Synagogue.

Commemoration at Freedom Park
Freedom Park is a heritage site which provides a broad new perspective of South Africa’s history and is a symbol of acknowledgement of the heroes and heroines of the struggle for humanity and freedom. This 35-hectare site comprises a museum and Garden of Remembrance, as well as Hapo which unfolds SA’s history, dating back 3.6 billion years.
